Goodbye President Ford

Ok, yes, I am a Liberal. However, as a newly-minted voter in 1976, I cast my very first vote in a US Presidential election for Gerald R. Ford. It wasn't because he was a Republican or because he was from my home state, but because he an anomaly in US politics.....an honest man. While he lost to Jimmy Carter ( a mere change in 5,000 votes would have changed the result- note, Ford never asked for a recount), I now can look back and see that there were more similarities in the two men than differences. Pardoning Nixon cost Ford the election yet, in retrospect, I do believe it was the right thing to do for our country (I hope that Nixon is getting his punishment in eternity).
Of course, I am in the thick of things here in west Michigan. The 10 jets doing the *missing man* formation flew over us here yesterday....they came from the Air National Guard base in Battle Creek. At one point, the line waiting to file past Ford's casket had 60,000 people in it and the wait was 8 hours. No, I am not going. I see no point in standing in line and freezing my butt off to look at a flag-draped casket holding a body. I would rather remember the man he was, and honor him, by striving to be more like him: to be honest in all dealings, to know how to separate the person from the job- Ford was so good at this; he might not agree with your politics but he could still embrace you as a person. He was also approachable and, when told he was wrong, he would actually listen to why he was wrong, as was willing to make adjustments. Dubya could learn a lot from Ford....What a difference.
So, back to the studio today. Going to set up the iMac and finish my niece's signature quilt from her wedding on July 1......

Hi, I tried to find an email link to send this offsite, but was unable to do so.

Recently you donated an artsy item to the Kim Family Auction. We were impressed with your item, as well as your generosity.

variaZioNE is an international art group with close to 900 members. Our primary focus is mixed media, collage, altered art, fiber art, altered jewelry, etc. Membership benefits include artist promotional activities, workshops, gallery presence, contests, discussion boards, activities, and more. You can learn more about our group and our many activities by clicking on the links below:

    www.ZNEart.com

    www.ZNEstore.com

You can also see some of our members’ art listings on eBay at the following link:

    As well as on Etsy:

ZNE’s headquarters are located in Pleasanton, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was with great anticipation that we followed the news about the Kim Family during the time that they were missing. It was with joy that we celebrated when Kati, Penelope, and Sabine were found, and we shared the grief of our community when James did not make it.

To thank you for your contribution to the Kim Family Fund, we would like to offer you a free one year membership in ZNE. Membership rates usually cost between $12 and $25 a year. However, we feel that offering a free membership to the artists who participated in the Kim Family Fund auctions is the least we can do.

It is not necessary to be an artist of any particular genre or caliber in order to join our group, all we ask is that you be a lover of independent artistic expression. As a member of ZNE you are welcome to upload your own gallery, submit listings to The ZNE Store, add your links to our Links we Love page, participate in our ad free Site Ring, and participate in any of our other activities and contests. ZNE is an extraordinary network of artists and websites. It would be our pleasure to welcome you into our fold.

If you choose to take us up on this offer, all we ask that you place a link to our website or our logo or banner ad somewhere on your own website or blog. You can view some of our banner ads, here:

    http://www.zneart.com/link_back.php

You may click on the link below to register for membership:

    http://www.zneart.com/join_form.php

Important: Where it asks for payment info on the form, check “Other” then note: Kim Family Auction – COMP in the “Other Information” area.

We hope to welcome you as a new member in the near future! And regardless of whether or not you take us up on this offer, thank you again for your contribution toward making a difference for the Kim Family during this difficult time.

    Sincerely,

    Chel
    ZNE Founder

About Me

Name: Teri Springer
Home: Chester, Nova Scotia, Canada
About Me: Studio Art Quilt Associates for the Atlantic Canada Region (New Brunswick, Newfoundland/Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island). Quote:Apples and Wine: Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they sometimes take the apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough & smart enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. Now Men... Men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the hell out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.
